Start your 5 km trek from Chopta (8,790 ft) towards Tungnath Temple (12,073 ft), the highest Shiva temple in the world and one of the Panch Kedar shrines. The trail is beautifully laid out, winding through rhododendron forests and alpine meadows with breathtaking views of the Chaukhamba and Trishul peaks.
After around 3–4 hours of a moderate climb, you’ll reach Tungnath Temple, where spirituality meets serenity. Seek blessings of Lord Shiva, take in the ancient Himalayan architecture, and feel the divine calm of this sacred site.
For those seeking the ultimate Himalayan experience, continue another 1.5 km trek to Chandrashila Peak (13,000 ft). The final ascent is short but steep — and as you reach the summit, you’ll be rewarded with one of the most spectacular sunrise views in Uttarakhand.
From the top, witness the golden rays of the sun illuminating the majestic peaks of Nanda Devi, Trishul, Chaukhamba, Kedar Dome, and Shivling — a once-in-a-lifetime moment that makes every step worthwhile.
